Positioning of Duplicated Module Components

I have a particular module with many module components:

  • Some of these module components are located on the same sheet.
  • Some of these module components are located on dedicated sheets.

One of my module components, I would like to duplicate (when I duplicate the module) onto dedicated sheets in the Presentations seciton of the ToC.

Whilst in the module component manager, I don't seem to be able to amend the positioning, see screen shot below.

Thoughts?

I should add, this particular module component is already sitting in the Presentations section. However, when I duplicate, the new duplicate ends up in the Outputs section.

Hi Tony,

We've had a lot of requests from advanced users to extend the functionalities controlling where module components are positioned, as the system doesn't currently allow a lot of control over this area.

As discussed briefly in the user guide, the current module component placement properties only allow you to specify whether the components should be inserted on their own dedicated sheet, and allow another component within the same module to be specified as a relative placement module component. But these properties won't give you any more control than this.

When you duplicate and/or mirror modules, module components with their 'Locate on dedicated sheet' property checked will be inserted as they would be when inserting the module - i.e. positioned relative to existing module components in the workbook allowing for their module area and order indices.

If one of the module components in the module you're duplicating is located in the Presentations section of your model, but the its duplicate module component is being positioned within the Outputs section during duplication, my guess would be that the parent module has been assigned a module area in the Outputs part of the model, not the Outputs & Presentations module area. So the system thinks it should go in the Outputs section of your model rather than the Presentations section.

The fact that module components are positioned primarily based on the module area assigned to their parent module is a weakness of the platform, especially when duplicating/mirroring modules, and we're exploring ways of improving control over this area in coming upgrades.

I hope this makes some sense, even if it doesn't resolve your current issue!

Hi Mike,

I kept playing around with it a bit more and seem to have arrived at a working solution.

Originally I was using an Outputs component type along with a Schematics (P) sheet type. I moved the original module component to a presentations sheet, but subsequent duplicates would always be placed in the outputs section.

I then tried using an Outputs Summary component type whilst sticking with a Schematics (P) sheet type. That seems to have done the trick as now my duplicates are being placed in the presentation section!
