Excel Crashing Too Frequently When Copying and Pasting to Assumptions Cells

I am regularly using Modano and for the most part it works fine. However, excel tends to crash when I am copying and pasting. This happens especially when I am copying and pasting to assumption cells in Modano. I don't really know what is causing the problem. Does anyone experience the same issue? How to mitigate it? Thanks

Hi Evan,

This is not something we've received widespread reports of, so we're keen to understand what's happening.

There's actually quite a lot going on behind the scenes when you copy and paste into assumptions cells in modular workbooks, even though it seems like such a simple and common thing to do, especially if you're copying and pasting data from other worksheets and/or workbooks.

One thing we recommend trying is switching off the Clipboard history functionality which Microsoft recently added to Windows 10, as we're finding some users report that this slows their computer and causes system-wide instability in some cases. To do this, go to Start, type Settings, select the Clipboard tab within the Settings dialog, then turn off Clipboard history, as shown below:

We'd also like to look at your logs, so if you could send them to us (in Excel, go to the Modano tab, Help menu, Run Diagnostics Tool, then click the Send Logs button within the dialog) we'd really appreciate it. You can also submit a support ticket via the Support section of your Modano account (www.modano.com/account/support), which will not require you to purchase any support credit as technical support is included in your subscription.

Please let us know how you go regardless.

Thanks, M.

Hi Evan,

Further to my comments above, what is the source of the data you're copying and pasting into assumptions cells? Is it within the same sheet, or a different sheet, or a different workbook altogether?

Thanks, M.

Thanks for the prompt response. The source data is sometimes same sheet, different sheet and different workbook. To be more precise, it usually happens when I am copying from the leftmost assumption cells to all the other cells on the right.

All looks pretty standard Evan, have you tried changing your clipboard settings as per my comment above?

I have changed the clipboard settings and so far haven't had any crashes during copying and pasting for now. Thanks

Hi Evan,

When did you first notice this? How large is your file in terms of RAM usage? Does Excel crash when using the same file without Modano (if Clipboard history is switched back on)?

I see from your log that you're using 64 bit office - starting Monday morning this week my Excel kept crashing when operating large files (files which worked without problem on Friday last week) when using 64 bit office. It was not a problem on smaller files and I assume the Clipboard history also impacts memory usage, so I wonder if this could this be a 64 bit office specific memory issue?

I found no resolution to my problem so had to downgrade to 32 bit office to get my work done.

Have you got your Clipboard History turned off Tarjei?

Hi Mike - yes i did have the clip board history turned off before I downgraded

Looks like another memory-related issue Tarjei, it's always murky when you're working with very large files.
