XML Metadata Write Error

Hi,

I encounter a problem with Modano when trying to save. Please refer to the screenshoot of the error message box.

After a bit of investigation, turns out the cause is the Logo that I just inserted, shown in the active sheet.

Once I have deleted the Logo, saving works fine.
Is there anyway to fix this as I need the Logo in that active sheet.

Thanks

Hi Alexander,

When modular workbooks or modules are saved, Modano stores all the modular data using XML which is then stored within the workbook. It's instrumental to Modano working properly that this XML data is written and stored correctly in your files, so you should never see errors like this, and we're always keen to get to the bottom of them when they do occur.

From our experience, meta data write errors are usually a result of one of three things:

  1. Your modular workbook or module file is very large and Excel is running our of allocated memory (i.e. an Out of Memory exception) during the XML write process. To get around this, we recommend upgrading to the 64-bit version of Excel if you're working with very large files.
  2. You are saving to a cloud-based location or document management system. This will often prevent the XML data being written, so while we'll work on addressing this in future upgrades for now we recommend saving your modular workbooks and modules locally (i.e. to your C drive) if you're experiencing XML write errors, and seeing if this stops your issues.
  3. You have other add-ins installed in Excel which are conflicting with Modano. Some add-ins, particularly document management add-ins, interfere with the Excel save process, and can therefore interfere with Modano. The easiest way to determine if this is your issue is to switch off all your add-ins, then turn them back on as needed until your XML saving issues re-emerge. Our engineers can than help you work around this conflict once you've isolated it.

I'd be very surprised if your issue has anything to do with the logo within that sheet, as that logo really isn't something Modano should care about. But if you're happy to email your model (in confidence) to our support team (support@modano.com), we can see if we're able to reproduce the issue. And then if it is the logo, we'll amend our code to prevent this happening going forward.

Please let us know how you go. Thanks, M.
