Padlock on all protected sheets?

Not Modano specific but given that a Modano workbook is by definition protected, this new "padlock" symbol included in the latest version of Excel on all protected worksheets is a pain the backside!

Adds at least 4 characters worth of spacing on each tab, does anyone know if there is a way to turn this off?

Hi Tarjei,

We feel your pain, and could not agree more. Irrespective of the fact that Modano protects sheets to protect the modular content within them, this is a very unhelpful feature addition by Microsoft and we're strongly suggesting that they remove it or make it optional.

For everyone who's unaware of this 'feature', here's what it does to a workbook with protected sheets (including all modular workbooks):

This appears to be the original suggestion given to Microsoft, which was heavily criticised:

Here's our post voting for it to be removed or made optional and OFF by default:

https://excel.uservoice.com/forums/304921-excel-for-windows-desktop-application/suggestions/40858108-remove-the-lock-symbols-from-the-tabs-of-protected

Incredible and concerning that (1) this feature made it into the application and (2) it was not made optional.

Please comment in the above forums to help this cause. I also posted this on LinkedIn yesterday:

Godspeed someone at Microsoft is listening to this tsunami of negative feedback.

P.S. You can also give 'I Don't Like Something' feedback from within the Excel desktop application. which I believe is read by the Microsoft Excel team, as follows:

  1. Select the File tab.
  2. Click the Feedback button in the bottom left corner.
  3. Click the I Don't Like Something button, as shown below.

Really hoping Microsoft listen to their users on this one, I'm yet to hear anyone at all supporting the feature...

Hey all,

As much as I don't like the icons, what I've found is it doesn't hinder me too much, as I've gotten very used to using the navigation in the modular workbooks (ToC or Overview) in my time using Modano models.

Good thing we have other options using the modular workbooks, but I could definitely see the pain for those that don't have this option in their workbooks...

Upvoted the removal and downvoted the original request...

The Overview page is great when navigating the workbook but when writing a formula that references other sheets the reduction in visible sheets definitely creates more problems than it solves and hopefully it's removed in the next update!

Yeh agree it's a pain, not defending it, just trying to find ways to work around it whilst it's still there. Do you use the right click to get a list of sheets when writing formulas? I find that to be helpful.

Hi Jun.

No, I've never used that but that's an excellent tip, will definitely adopt this in the future - thank you!

Cheers
