Modano X styles and formatting

Hi,

I like assumption worksheets to have a grey background with white assumption cells (pre-Modano X style). I have been playing around with the new Modano X styles to try and achieve this and can get it working. However, it seems that the period title set background has to be either white or grey across all assumption and output worksheets (presentation worksheets are separate).

Is there a way to set the period title sets to apply the same background as the sheet it is on? I'd like to apply this to Heading 2 as well.

Also, is there a way to set default row height for each style?

Thanks,

James

Hi James,

Modano X doesn’t force any specific formats and styles on you, although the default Modano theme has changed a lot.

I’m in transit now so not in front of my computer, so I’ll provide you with a more detailed explanation when I’m back online Wednesday, but here’s some pointers:

  1. To change your default theme to a gray assumptions sheet theme, load the Modano Options dialog (Modano tab, Options menu, Options), go to the Import tab, select the theme closest to what you want (e.g. Modano Classic), then click the Import button without closing the dialog.
  2. After doing this, go to the Styles tab and select the Period Titles style from within the Outputs menu and then click the Customize menu to customize it any way you like.
  3. Repeat step 2 for the Presentation Period Titles style within the Presentation Styles menu.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the Heading 1 and Heading 2 styles if you’d like to remove the fill color from these styles too.

This process will make it clear to you that you can customize pretty much anything when using Modano X.

It’s worth noting that all Modano content going forward will be built assuming the default Modano X theme, so while you’re more than welcome to reset your theme back to the pre-Modano X look-and-feel, you may find that many modules going forward don’t look as presentable without heading 1 and 2 fill colors...

Hence, I’d recommend minimal changes to your default theme if you’re looking to leverage Modano’s content libraries going forward. If you’re building your own content libraries from scratch it really doesn’t matter what you do with your theme settings.

Thanks, Michael. I'll give your steps a go. You're right that I'm better to stick with the newer formatting.

We try to never force anything on any of our users James, so it's completely your decision.

The primary theming changes in Modano X are the use of fill coloring for period titles rows and headings, and the use or grouping within components. These changes are a result of widespread feedback we've had from users around the world, many pointing out that using fill coloring for module component header rows makes it much cleared where the components start and end within each sheet.

Then adding single level row grouping within module components allows grouped rows to be collapsed and expanded to show the content within each sheet all on one screen, as shown below. We call this the accordion effect, and it's really grown on us.

Either way, you can change any/all of your Modano options to switch off all these theme changes if you'd prefer to revert back to the classic Modano look. The only downside is that our content/modules have been upgraded for the above layout, so they won't look as sexy with the old theming, as I've mentioned above.

I appreciate your advice. Thanks, Michael.

The Import settings step you recommended saved me a lot of time converting old models to the new format.

I have applied the new formatting with accordion effect, but with a grey background for assumption worksheets. I think the grey background distinguishes assumption cells better, particularly for clients using the model.

I tried to set the period title fill colour to "no colour" rather than the new dark grey. It seems that "no colour" applies a white fill rather than the default fill colour for the particular sheet. This means the period titles on assumption worksheets have a white fill. I think I'll just have to use the new dark grey fill instead.

Thanks again.
