Dynamic Module Name Based on Categories

Hi Everyone,

I noticed in the Template Consolidated models, the individual module names are dynamically linked to the Entity Categories.
Is anyone able to share their expertise on this please if it's even possible without going into the backend of Modano.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Khang,

The entities summary within the consolidations content library use trigger cell blocks to automatically align the names of entity-specific modules by triggering a macro when the values within the entity name assumptions cell block are changed. This is a very new functionality which we're yet to document, but which you can play with and should be able to figure out quite quickly.

To make a cell block a trigger cell block, first select it then go to the Build tab, Cell Blocks menu, and click on the Make Trigger Cell Block menu item. The Make Cell Block Trigger dialog will be displayed, providing a range of different trigger types, as shown below:

You can use trigger cell blocks to do all sorts of things, including renaming the module that the cell block is located within, renaming dependent modules, changing the number of categories in a specified category block (which is what we do in the scenario manager module to automate the addition of new scenarios when including scenario analysis within a model), or trigger a macro (which is what we do in the entities summary module to call a macro which renames all the associated entity modules.

You can view a summary of all the trigger cell blocks in the active workbook, and trigger or delete them, via the Build tab, Cell Blocks, Trigger Cell Blocks, as shown below:

This is complex stuff but is also an insanely powerful way of making the model user experience more robust, as changes to assumptions can trigger all sorts of changes to your model.

Hope this helps. M.

Hi Michael,

With regards to trigger cell blocks, I've been using these to update category blocks (i.e. change number of categories in the the category block). Is it possible to add the new categories at the top of the category block, rather than always at the bottom? I'm building a model for a novice Modano user and would like them to use the trigger cells block to add new rows but I need them at the top rather than at the bottom as new entries gets added to every week.

All the best
