Hi Natalia,
You are correct, the annual budget does not exist in our libraries. But alas, I can take you through the process to create one!
Firstly, we need to open the Monthly Budget Income Statement module (Modano-Open-From Web). We will leverage this existing module for building our new annual module.
Now on the annual model, we need to add a new empty module (Modano-Modules-Insert), which we be called ‘Budget Income Statement’. For the properties section I have copied most of the module properties from the Monthly Budget Income Statement module as pictured below.
As for components, we will need to add the assumptions component using the All periods title set.
Now on the monthly module we need to shorten the category blocks before we can paste the rows into the annual model. To do this, select the column information to shorten and press control + E, pictured below.
Now we can copy all of the rows of the first component and paste them into the annual component, on this step it is important that we have added enough empty rows on the annual model to fit all of the pasted rows.
Next Modano will ask if you want to paste the links as well, in this case we want to paste all links the same as the monthly.
Once pasted, we can now lengthen the category blocks to the end of the period by selecting the column information and press Control + R.
Now we now need to link precedents to each of the category blocks we have just pasted. The quickest way to do this, is in the project manager tool (Build-Manage-Project Manager). Here if we locate our new module links we can see the grey out income statement link, just drag and drop these into our new Budget Income Statement module.
Now that the new annual Budget Income Statement module is complete, we can use the import assumptions tool to import the financials into our new budget module.
Please see the Budget Creation walkthrough on how best to do this: https://www.modano.com/resources/learning/financial_modeling/budget_variance_analysis/budget_creation
If you also want Variance Analysis, feel free to contact us at Modano for further support on this.
Thanks a lot! just a quick question. Doing that I don't get the time frame for the budget in the time tab. It does move with the Core time series Assumptions. Is that suppose to happen? or did I do something wrong? Thanks!!!
Hi Natalia,
No, that part of the time series module will have to be copied across as well. That is, if you wish to use the budget module in terms of Variance Analysis. That is something that we could discuss if you will request support with us.
thanks! I will take a look and try again.
Tried to create it many times with new workbooks from scratch. Also I added to an empty workbook the one you posted on this post but still not showing the portion for the time series. what I am doing wrong?
