Added Transfer Module Assumptions tool.

Hi Modano team

In the change log for version 10.17.1.0 I notice one of the updates is the addition of Transfer Module Assumptions tool. I assume this does exactly what it says on the tin and also where can i find this inside Modano?

Thanks

Hi Tarjei,

Apologies we haven't yet documented this tool, you can find it under the Modano tab, Modules menu, Transfer Assumptions.

We've added this tool along with a range of other tools which aim to save time by allowing users to preserve assumptions when doing things including duplicating, mirroring and replacing modules - all of which now support the (best endeavours-based) retaining of assumptions.

The Transfer Assumptions tool simply allows you to transfer all the assumptions within one or more modules to other another module (or modules). It sounds like a strange thing to do but we've found ourselves using it a lot, particularly when duplicating and mirroring modules which often have similar assumptions.

We may extend the functionality of this tool in the future to allow the transfer of assumptions between specific module components or cell blocks, but at the moment it's designed for transferring all assumptions between modules.

M.

Thanks Micheal -

I haven't had a chance to test it but I can definitely see this being a very useful tool saving a lot of time. Based on your description I assume it will not work if exporting a module out of the workbook (i.e import assumptions from the original workbook to the new workbook)? Would this be worth considering or is it not possible? I would make a very handy template maker when we're collecting SME inputs from across the business for our planning model.

We did consider adding the functionality to the Export Module tool but didn't have time, so we will do it soon.

You can work around this by simply exporting the module then transferring assumptions into it. The only thing you'll need to watch out for is that time series assumptions are reset when exporting so you'll need to align these (and all time series sheet periods, etc.) before being able to transfer assumptions reliably.

Thanks Michael - I think that would a very good addition. And yes, I see what you meant about the time series assumptions. Could copying TS assumptions across too be included in the tool too by any chance?

Just curious, will this work if duplicating or mirroring multiple modules as the same time? This might be a good way of running quick scenarios...

also, what are the uses you guys find for this new tool?
