Column width part of theme?

Is it possible to set the column width as part custom themes? Given the new layout of the Base Sheets (which I love btw), I prefer to have column B quite wide and the then remaining columns up the start of the time series at the same width - is it possible to set this as default for new workbooks?

Hi Tarjei,

The answer to your question depends on whether you're referring to modular workbooks or freeform workbooks.

For freeform workbooks, you cannot specify specific column widths, but you can specify the default header and body column widths via the Base Sheets tab within the Modano Options dialog (Modano tab, Options menu, Options), as shown below:

For modular workbooks, the default width of columns is set as per above for non-time series sheets, but is stored within period titles sets for time series sheets. Hence, all you need to do is change the width of column B within one time series sheet, and all future inserted sheets based on that time series set will inherit this column width.

A Word of Caution

There's a good reason why all the modules within the Modano content libraries assume default column widths - i.e. to maintain maximum compatibility of modules going forward. If you start developing modules which assume specific column widths, you cannot thereafter be sure that modules developed by other Modano users will take this into account, and you're thereby wedding your modules (and time series period titles set(s)) to each other and branching them away from the masses.

Hence, we only ever change columns within time series period titles sets away from the defaults when:

  1. Building completely custom modules for clients; or
  2. Building specialized content libraries (like the Project Finance module library we're currently building) which aren't designed to work with other content libraries / modules going forward.

I hope this helps you. M.

Thanks Michael, I was referring to modular workbooks and that's just the explanation I was after
